This Privacy Policy explains how the independent developer of Bill Swiper (“we”, “us”), the provider of this mobile application (the “App”), collects, uses, and protects information when you use the App. We act as the data controller for the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws.
| Data | Why | Stored? |
|---|---|---|
| Bill photo / scanned text — the picture of the restaurant bill you take or pick from your gallery, or the text our app reads from it. | To recognise the dishes, quantities and prices so you can split the bill. | Not stored. Processed in transit to return the result, then discarded. |
| Anonymous device identifier — a random ID created by Firebase Anonymous Authentication. It is not linked to your identity. | To apply the free-usage limit and your Pro status server-side. | Yes, while the App is installed (see Retention). |
| Usage counters — number of scans, Pro entitlement status. | To enforce the free tier and unlock Pro. | Yes, tied to the anonymous ID. |
| Purchase data — transaction identifiers and entitlement status for the one-time “Pro” purchase. Payment card details are handled by Apple/Google and never reach us. | To grant and restore Pro; fraud prevention. | Held by Apple/Google and RevenueCat; we receive status only. |
| Diagnostics — crash logs and basic, aggregated usage analytics (if enabled in a future version). | To fix bugs and improve the App. | Aggregated; no bill content. |
We use trusted providers strictly to operate the App:
| Provider | Purpose | Region |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Functions, Firestore) | Anonymous sign-in, backend, usage/entitlement storage | EU (europe-west1) |
| Google Gemini API (Generative Language API) | Reads the bill image/text to extract items & prices | Google global infrastructure |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | Manages and validates the Pro purchase | United States |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Payment processing for the Pro purchase | Global |
Our backend runs in the European Union. Some providers (e.g. Google Gemini, RevenueCat) may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required, such transfers rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent safeguards.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent (GDPR/UK GDPR). California residents have the right to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale/sharing (CCPA/CPRA) — note we do not sell or share personal information. To exercise any right, contact us at kansio.uusi@gmail.com.
Because the App is anonymous, please include the in-app identifier shown in Settings → About → My ID so we can locate the relevant record. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Bill Swiper is not directed to children and is intended for users aged 16 and over (or the age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Backend access is restricted and bill images are processed transiently. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
We may update this Policy. We will revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide notice in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
